Tesla Talisman 308U Bakelite Radio 1950's

A Classic compact radio from Czechoslovakia, now known as the Czech Republic.

Released in 1953 but the design was actually first conceived on the drawing boards of the late 1930's. Something I feel is evident by the style and streamlining of this classic set. During 1946 Philips started manufacturing receivers in Czechoslovakia using an internal design developed by the company during the war in 1941 which was based on their loktal valve design, a 4 valve superhet mains radio with dual voltage 110v and 220v.
Philips who were a Dutch concern soon found their factories in Czechoslovakia nationalised and put under Czech control, becoming part of the famous Tesla company.

Tesla continued to use this tried and tested design, known as The European 4 Tube Circuit until around 1958, and estimates reckon that 1,000,000 Tesla Talisman 308U sets were produced. Making it the most popular model of the Tesla range.

Wavebands are LW, MW and SW.
4 Valves, two UCH21's, one UBL21 and a UY1N completes the set up. AC/DC dual voltage set that requires an external aerial,
This model was manufactured during 1956, date stamped on chassis.

Nice and compact, amazing how with a bit of thought this set has been designed to fit into such a unique shaped body, it's no wonder this receiver is often sought after by international collectors.
The glass station dial is reverse painted in two colours, above the dial exists a pair of pilot lamps. 7cm speaker. Weight 3kg.
Size 31.5 x 18.5 x16cm.

Tesla exported many of these sets across the Balkans and Europe with differing wavebands and station indicators. This tried and tested design, was very popular, reliable and did not take up much space. The Talisman name originates from the Telegrafia company of Pardubice from around 1919.
